description A challenge facing contemporary museums and cultural institutions is that of curation. Currently curation and audio guides are based on global preferences or offers mostly generic information with little possibility of further content development. A solution could be real-time feedback in the form of a new kind of audio guide that is responsive. Layers or thresholds of information provide details about artworks, artists and styles based on how close you are to the artworks. As information is given via proximity, rather than the audio guide dictating how you move through space, the curation and depth of information is derived from movement in space. In this context, long term feedback is informed by the understanding of visitor engagement by the accumulated interactions of users and places and the real-time feedback provided. By quantifying how much information visitors want and what kind they would like e.g. more about artist’s life, less about style, institutions can parameter ongoing and future collections based on the interests of audiences. This is also a useful tool to discover dead zones and art pieces or areas that are not interacted with that could be changed or replaced.
